No More Smuggler’s Bounty?

In a very long and somewhat confusing email released early Friday morning, Smuggler’s Bounty announced that they will be eliminating the Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty subscription. However, it doesn’t seem that the boxes are going away altogether. Funko has teased that they will be partnering with an exclusive partner (my money’s on Walmart) and will distribute the boxes via retail. While this seems to be good news outside the United States, as boxes will probably become available through Popcultcha, it might be difficult picking one up if there are no physical retailers near you.

Here’s what’s going to happen:
Starting February 16th, (hint: that’s today) if you are an annual subscription holder, your account will have auto renew turned off on their annual renewal date. Instead of being a “subscriber” you will be an “account holder” which means three things:

As an account holder, you will:
  • Receive prioritized emails communicating that new boxes are available for purchase.
  • Not be guaranteed future boxes when new themes become available for purchase.
  • Need to log in to your account to purchase each future collectibles box as part of the Smuggler’s Bounty Subscription service.

So it sounds like there’s going to be a limited number of boxes going around, so you may not want to wait for the last day of the month if you want to purchase a box.

The subscription itself is going to end on September 15, 2018, so it means that Funko will be releasing four more boxes until they transfer to retail, although they have released no more information on that, aside from the fact that it’ll be released through an exclusive partner.

Update: According to updates on the blog, if you are a bi-monthly account holder, you have to purchase the Endor box AGAIN. They state that you have not yet been charged for it as they have completely eliminated this tier, but quantities are limited so they suggest you move quickly.

We’ll be keeping on top of this story and make sure to alert you with any future updates as they occur.

Dear Valued Customer,
Important changes are coming to the Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty subscription service that will impact your Annual Subscription and require your action in order to purchase future boxes. Please review the changes below and visit the Smuggler’s Bounty blog for more information.
Changes to Your Subscription
In an effort to allow Funko to focus on what they do best – creating unique, quality collectibles, Funko will be discontinuing the subscription offering for the Smuggler’s Bounty box on September 16, 2018. Prior to that date, Funko will continue to offer collectible boxes on a bi-monthly basis to account holders but the process is changing.
Transition to Retail
Have no fear! The boxes aren’t disappearing completely. After the discontinuation date of the subscription offering, Funko will be transitioning the Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty collectibles box to retail. Funko will be partnering with an exclusive retailer to deliver the Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty box as a retail offering. Stay tuned for upcoming details.
Important Account Changes and How to Purchase Boxes
In preparation to transitioning this service to retail and due to limited inventory, changes will be made to the Smuggler’s Bounty offering and to your account. As of today, Friday, February 16, 2018, all annual subscription accounts will have auto renew turned off on their annual renewal date. Therefore, upon your annual renewal date, your account status will move from an active subscriber to an account holder. Until your annual renewal date, you will continue to receive your allotted subscription boxes.
Steps to Logging in and Purchasing Boxes
  1. Visit
  2. Click ‘My Account,’ enter your email address or username and your password, and click ‘Sign In.’
  3. Navigate to the Members Exclusives section where you will find the current box, Endor, as well as past boxes.
  4. Add the Endor box, and any past boxes, to your cart and proceed through the check-out process.
  5. Your entire cart, including the Endor box, will be processed for payment upon check-out.
  6. The current box, Endor, will ship in mid-March, while any past boxes ordered will be shipped immediately.
Once the Smuggler’s Bounty Subscription service is discontinued, any refunds for annual subscription boxes that are not fulfilled will be processed back to the credit card currently on file in your account. For example, if your annual subscription was scheduled to renew in November 2018, you will be refunded for the balance of your annual subscription between the discontinuation date and your original November 2018 renewal date. Please ensure that the credit card and billing information for your account is up to date.
Annual Gift
As an Annual Subscriber to Smuggler’s Bounty, you will receive your annual subscription gift. Even if your annual subscription is not completed and Funko issues a refund for boxes not fulfilled, we will still send you the Smuggler’s Bounty Annual Subscriber’s gift. Annual gifts will be delivered within a month of your annual renewal date.
Box Availability
The inventory of the Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty collectible box, offered by Funko, will be limited. Existing Annual Subscribers will be guaranteed a box, with the balance of inventory offered to all Account Holders. See steps above to secure a box.
Your Action Items
  • After your annual renewal date and being moved to an account holder, if you’re interested in a specific Smuggler’s Bounty subscription box, you will need to log in to your account to purchase. Quantities on future boxes will be limited.

  1. i’m not so fond of this……i kinda get the reason as i bet the individual shipping was starting to be tough…rate increases, etc. it was a low value item in a big box. but i also don’t want to go searching for boxes from a retailer. i like to buy 2-5 boxes of a theme and collect them. now, the boxes are a search. plus, some guy is going to get 300 cases and sell them….and the individual is not going to get a chance at issue price. i just see this going bad for the individual here.

  2. The worst part is that they aren’t taking new customers. I’d been wanting to get on board with these for some time but they didn’t take PayPal. I just received a new credit card yesterday and was planning on signing up for these today and grab one of the older boxes as well, and now I’m screwed. Honestly, this makes me just want to sell the few I have and stop supporting this company altogether.

  3. Issue I have with this is we all know that whoever the retailer is going to be the workers who work there that are also collectors are going to save the box’s for themselves. I know that 1st hand from a friend that works at Walmart. I also see those box’s that do make it out whoever retailer is likely well raise the prices so they get something out of it for selling them.
